Knowledgebase: Microsoft Word
The following no-nonsense error message appears when you launch MS Word: "Macros in the project are disabled."

Solution:
This error appears if a Word add-in file contains macros programmed to run automatically when Word launches and your macro security setting is set to High. Open the Tools menu, expand Macro, and click Security. Choose the Medium radio button in the Security dialog box, click OK, and then close and restart Word. Word will provide a warning including the name of the file containing the auto Macro and the file's location. Click Disable Macros when the warning box appears, and when Word finishes loading, open the Tools menu, expand Macro, click Security, choose the High radio button, and click OK.

If you continue to receive a lot of annoying macro-related error messages, setting the Security level back to Medium will eliminate the errors. This also makes Word (and your system) vulnerable to macro viruses, however, so be careful when opening Word documents you receive from outside sources.
